A massive piece of international engineering has arrived in Tampa — and it’s helping power the region’s booming construction economy.
Global building materials supplier SESCO Cement has officially activated operations at its new terminal at Port Tampa Bay, marking a major milestone for the company’s expansion into Florida and bringing new jobs and international trade activity to the region.
The moment came with the arrival and installation of a massive custom-built ship unloader — the final component needed to begin full-scale operations at the company’s Tampa port facility.
From Egypt to Tampa: A Global Journey
The industrial-scale ship unloader made a 25-day voyage across the Atlantic after being designed, engineered, and assembled in Egypt. The equipment is now installed at SESCO’s terminal in the Port Redwing area of Port Tampa Bay, where it will allow the company to efficiently unload large shipments of bulk cement and other materials arriving by sea.
The project reflects both the international reach of the company and Tampa’s growing importance as a gateway for global construction materials.
“We’re very excited to establish our presence at Port Tampa Bay, one of the nation’s most strategically located ports,” said Aly El Etreby, Vice President of Business Development at SESCO Group. “This investment reflects our commitment to the Florida construction industry and our confidence in the region’s continued growth. Our Tampa operations will allow us to deliver materials more efficiently while creating quality jobs in the local community.”

25 New Jobs Coming to the Port
The facility is already creating new employment opportunities locally. SESCO has begun hiring for its Tampa terminal and expects to have 25 employees in place by April.
Those jobs support a growing logistics and materials network centered around the port — one that will help move massive quantities of construction materials across Florida.
Once fully operational, the Tampa facility is expected to move as much as 700,000 tons of materials annually by the end of 2026, supplying cement and crushed limestone aggregate to construction companies, ready-mix plants, and building products manufacturers.
Tampa’s Strategic Advantage
For SESCO, the Tampa location offers something increasingly valuable in today’s global supply chain: direct access to international shipping combined with fast distribution across the state.
The company’s 14-acre terminal at Port Tampa Bay includes 90,000 tons of storage capacity, allowing it to receive bulk shipments from around the world and quickly move them to construction markets throughout Florida using highways and rail.
The port location is especially important as Florida continues to experience rapid population growth and record construction demand.
A Growing Global Company
Founded in 2014, SESCO Cement is part of SESCO Group, a vertically integrated international company involved in manufacturing, shipping, and logistics.
The company already operates a 22-acre terminal in Houston with 240,000 tons of storage capacity, currently the largest single-owner cement terminal in the United States.
Now, with Tampa joining its network, SESCO is positioning the city as a critical hub for moving building materials into one of the fastest-growing construction markets in the country.
For Tampa, the project highlights the city’s growing role in global trade — where international cargo, local jobs, and Florida’s building boom increasingly meet at the docks of Port Tampa Bay.
