WUSF Public Media will debut their new daily radio program, “The World,” focused on international journalism. It’s part of their mission to serve Florida residents with news and information happening here and abroad. The new program will begin airing at WUSF on Monday, May 22, and run daily 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. It will air just before the National Public Radio program “All Things Considered.”
What to expect from “The World”
“The World” is a news magazine format, airing live each weekday and designed to engage with a unique perspective on daily news. It will cover American issues and events through the eyes of foreign observers. It will also put foreign affairs into context for American listeners.
“More and more often, events across the world and events in Florida are interacting with each other,” said WUSF General Manager JoAnn Urofsky. “Whether that is politics, the environment, education or immigration, these international events are vital for our residents to know about and understand to make informed choices about our state. This new show is the perfect addition to our lineup in service to our residents.”

The show is hosted by renowned journalist Marco Werman. He has been working in journalism since the age of 16 as a copy boy at the “News and Observer” newspaper in Raleigh, N.C. He discovered radio journalism while working as a freelancer north of Togo in Burkina Faso for the BBC World Service. In 1990, he launched a new public radio station in New York State’s Adirondacks region. And he hosted a daily two-hour news and public affairs show as a foreign correspondent.
