Ya La’Ford Brings HENGE Exhibit to HCC Gallery

A piece from HENGE - unearthing ancestral memory.

Gallery114@HCC is bringing another exciting exhibit to its space. Ya La’ford’s new solo exhibition is called HENGE–unearthing ancestral memory and will be on display for the next month.

HENGE — unearthing ancestral memory

HENGE – unearthing ancestral memory invites viewers to reconsider symbols from ancient civilizations as keys for navigating the shapes and patterns of modern life. Concepts such as connection, excavation, reverence, and memory are woven together for an immersive and multi-sensory installation.

Inspired by forms such as neolithic henges, kivas, and other ancient architectural monuments, these new works by La’ford investigate ancestral messages and reimagines them for contemporary audiences. Ya La’ford catches the attention of the viewer with an amazing display of symbols from ancient civilizations throughout her artworks.

The exhibit will be on display at Gallery114@HCC until November 2. There will be a reception and artist talk at on October 19, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Sculptural/landscape art-park-work, entitled Boulevard Flow by artist Ya La’ford. Ya La’Ford serves on the Board of Directors for the Tampa Arts Alliance.

More about Ya La’Ford

Ya La’ford was born in the Bronx and is an internationally recognized multimedia artist whose bold, geometric work explores themes of transformation and transcendence.

Her community projects with installations on exterior walls throughout Tampa Bay area include USF, Historic Manhattan Casio, HYATT, Community Foundation, Rays Stadium, the Morean Arts Center, the James Weldon Johnson Public Library, and Rowdies – Al Lang Stadium, WADA

Ya La’ford received her MFA in Interdisciplinary Art from The Art Institute of Boston in 2012. She also holds a JD from the University of Florida’s Levin College of Law.
